Gastroenterology & Hepatology

       The dept. was founded in 1962. The endoscopy center started to carry out esophagogastroduodenoscope in 1963 and colonoscope in 1975. In 1979, the ward of Gastroenterology & Hepatology was built under internal medicine department. With years of effort, the ward of Gastroenterology & Hepatology has integrated clinical, research and teaching into a comprehensive medical department, which now serves as a cornerstone of the national medical infrastructure of China and is awarded as Sichuan provincial key discipline. This dept. produces and trains more than 200 qualified doctors, postgraduate doctor, resident doctors, intern doctors and graduate students at home and abroad each year, and undertakes research projects supported by NSFC, provincial and municipal research fund.

       Currently, the department has 100 subspecialty physicians and nurses, including 7 medical doctors and 12 medical masters of Gastroenterology & Hepatology,10 chief/associate chief physicians,and 3 master mentors. All chief physicians with senior professional title serve in national academic organizations, including  Chinese Society of Digestive Diseases (CSDD), Chinese Society of Digestive Endoscopy(CSDE), and provincial and municipal medical associations.

       Most doctors have oversea studying experiences and further education experiences in famous hospitals in China. Most specialists in the department have close collaboration and communication with well-known medical institutions at home and abroad.

       The dept. provides professional consultation by chief physicians and associate chief physicians. The number of outpatients is approximately 100000 each year.

       The dept. consists of two wards: the headquarter (20th floor of 2nd in-patient building) and Caotang Branch. There are 106 -116 beds in total. The number of inpatients each year is approximately 3500 .

       There are two endoscopy centers in the headquarter (3th floor of 2nd in-patient building) and Caotang Branch. The endoscopic examinations and treatments are done by experienced subspecialty doctors with senior professional title. The numbe of endoscopics, both diagnostic and therapeutic, reaches approximately 30000 annually.

       Endoscopy examinations without or with intravenous sedatives are routinely carried out. In addition, the advanced endoscopic equipment and techniques are applied to examine and treat problems of the digestive tract with minimal invasion.

  • GI stent placement and implantation

  • Closure of fistula

  • Enteral feeding tube placement (Endoscopic)

  • Transanus ilues tube placement

  • Polypectomy

  • Esophageal and anorectal Manometry  

  • Endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)

  • Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD)  

  • Peroral endoscopic myotomy(POEM)

  • Submucosal tunneling and endoscopic resection (STER)

  • EUS-guided fine needle aspiration(EUS-FNA/FNI)

  • Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy(PEG)


Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP):

  • Biliary stone/ascariasis removal

  • Biliary stent placement and implantation

  • Endoscopic retrograde biliary drainage(ERBD)

  • Endoscopic nasobiliary drainage(ENBD)

  • Endoscopic sphincterotomy(EST)  


Interventional therapy:

  • Embolization: arterial, venous

  • Intravenous stent placement

  • Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS)

  • Percutaneous transhepatic cholangicdrainage (PTCD)
